about Sandy's Garden
Sandy’s Garden is a non-profit dedicated to nurturing our community by making sure everyone has access to wholesome food.

Founded by Sandy Zappia, Sandy's Garden grows nutritious fruits and vegetables on her 3.5 acre farm on Annie Crow Road and donates them to the food pantries in Kent County, Maryland, including the Maryland Food Bank.
Meet Sandy
Sandy's Garden was founded by Sandy Zappia. Sandy and her late husband raised their 3 children on a small family farm in West Virginia where she also worked as the elementary school’s librarian and later a preschool teacher.
They moved to Kent County in 2017 to be closer to family and Sandy worked as a preschool teacher at Friendship Montessori School. Then as time goes on, life happens, children and parents grow older, Sandy returned to her farming roots working at a garden in Rock Hall.

“The idea for Sandy’s Garden came about when the restaurant garden where I was working had more produce than we could use- so we donated it to the local food pantry. What an eye-opener! I had NO IDEA of the need for fresh fruit and vegetables in the county. I realized at that moment that I wanted to help meet that need.”
Sandy bought the 3.5 acre property on Annie Crow Road in Kent county where she now lives and operates Sandy’s Garden.
